Investment Studies Center (ISC) at Union of Investment Companies (UIC) concluded the training program “Board Secretary”, which was prepared and presented by Emad Al-Hussein, a specialist in governance and institutional development, on 15^th & 16^th February 2023. In this occasion, Ms. Fadwa Darwish – UIC Secretary General reported that organizing this training program emerged from keenness of UIC to enhance the efficiency of the secretaries of boards of directors in investment companies and to develop their skills in dealing with the board of directors professionally, and in response to the great development in the tasks and work of secretaries of boards of directors and committees whose scope of work has expanded to include providing comprehensive support to the board of directors in terms of administrative, technical and advisory tasks.

The presence of the board secretary has strengthened the corporate law, which obligates all joint-stock companies to appoint a board secretary for the board of directors from the employees of the company and specifies for him the powers to sign the decisions issued by him, in addition to the necessity of his signature to be in the minutes of the meetings. The executive regulations of the Capital Markets Authority’s law emphasized this role and its importance.

For his part, Mr. Emad Al-Hussein the presenter of the program, confirmed that the program was prepared with extreme precision and in accordance with international practices to keep pace with the development of the work of boards of directors and the complexity of business in large companies, especially with the multiplicity of regulatory requirements. The program was supported by four workshops to emphasize the concepts of corporate governance and the role of the secretary in boards of directors.
